For a couple of years now, the bestseller on the equestrian market are breeches with silicone grip. They replaced breeches with leather and material grips in our closets. They are comfortable and because the grip is glued onto the material, it reduces the number of necessary seams that might cause chafing and general discomfort.
Every equestrian brand producing breeches uses a different type of silicone. You can differentiate them by their adhesiveness. A great example is Samshield, who's grip is non-sticky, fine, and delicate. At the same time, Kingsland has an adhesive, thicker, and often lined with KL's logo grip. Another element worth discussing in the placing of the grip. You can choose between breeches with a knee grip of a full one. The choice is an individual matter, depending simply on preferences. You need to remember that you have to feel 100% comfortable in your equestrian pants. Tall people with long legs should check if a knee grip is indeed on the knee's level. It might happen that the grip would come onto a thigh and cause hurtful chafing. It is said that breeches with a full seat (grip) have a better grip, but as we have said before, it is an individual matter. Some people do not like the full grip as it may stick to the whole surface of the saddle causing chafing of the legs and hinder the rider's comfort.
You should pay attention to the size of the silicone elements. Big pieces might peel off the material and wear off more quickly when compared to the smaller ones. Producers also change their ways and start using pattern grips - dots, tears, monograms, arrows.
Thus, it is impossible to say which silicone grip is best. It depends on the rider's preferences and needs. What is most important is that there are many available options on the market so that every rider can find something perfect for themselves.
