Riding helmet polishing is a cosmetic treatment that reduces fine scratches, dullness and minor surface marks on lacquered shells, restoring an even shine. We work on glossy helmets, including Samshield, KEP, KASK and Freejump, at Equishop Service Centre in Ruda Śląska. Bring your helmet in person or send it to us; we can return it to your chosen address afterwards.

What does helmet polishing achieve?
A glossy shell picks up fine scratches from bag buckles, dust wiped off with a dry cloth, trailer walls and luggage nets. Each mark may be barely visible, but together they scatter light and make a black helmet look grey and tired.
Polishing levels the upper lacquer surface so light reflects more evenly. Expected improvements include:
- A deeper, more even shine instead of a dull haze.
- Fewer fine scratches that are visible but do not catch a fingernail.
- Richer colour: black looks black again and navy looks less faded.
- A smarter competition appearance, particularly in photographs.
- Improved resale presentation: well-maintained equipment can attract buyers more readily.
Which marks can we remove?
Polishing works only on the upper lacquer layer. Damage extending deeper cannot be removed with polishing compound.

A simple surface check is to move your fingernail gently across the scratch. If it catches, the mark is too deep for polishing. If it moves smoothly, the mark may be within the scope of this service.
Which helmets are suitable?
We polish glossy helmets only: lacquered shells with a smooth, reflective finish. The process levels the lacquer surface, so it is unsuitable for matt and textile finishes.
- Suitable: glossy, lacquered shells, including glossy sections on mixed-finish helmets.
- Excluded: matt, velour, velvet, suede, uncoated carbon, fabric-covered surfaces and custom-painted shells.
We work on Samshield, KEP, KASK, Freejump and other riding helmet brands. The finish determines suitability, not the logo. If unsure, send us a photograph before shipping so we can assess it and avoid unnecessary transport costs.
Polishing is cosmetic only. It does not repair the shell, restore protective properties or extend the helmet's service life. A helmet involved in a fall or impact should be replaced regardless of how it looks, even without visible marks. Contact the manufacturer or our team if you have concerns about its condition.
How is the treatment carried out?
- Shell assessment. We check the finish and depth of scratches. If damage is beyond the scope of polishing, we explain this before carrying out ineffective work.
- Cleaning. We remove dust, product deposits and sticker residue so dirt is not rubbed into the lacquer.
- Polishing. We use products for lacquered surfaces, selecting the grade to suit the shell's condition.
- Finishing and inspection. We remove compound residue, check the shine under light and protect the helmet for collection or shipping.
Non-polished components, including textile peaks, liners, straps and ventilation mesh, receive surface cleaning only.

- Arrange how to hand over the helmet: bring it to Ruda Śląska or send it to us for return to your chosen address.
- Pack it securely. Use the original box or helmet bag if available; loose packing can cause new scratches.
- Include a note if a particular area needs attention or you have concerns about a mark.
- Collect or receive your helmet. We confirm the completion date after receiving it.
The shop's free delivery and returns offers do not apply to service orders. Transport costs are additional; personal drop-off and collection incur no transport charge. Confirm transport arrangements with us when ordering.
How to care for your helmet between treatments
- Do not dry-wipe the shell. Dust acts as an abrasive; use a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Store it in a bag or box, away from spurs, whips and buckles.
- Avoid household and automotive polishing products: they can dull the lacquer or damage printed details and logos.
- Do not leave it in a hot car or direct sunlight: heat can damage the finish and internal materials.

Frequently asked questions
Can you remove every scratch?
No. Polishing reduces light surface scratches and dullness that do not catch a fingernail. Deep scratches, chipped lacquer and wear through to the layer beneath remain visible because they extend beyond the surface being polished. Send a photo before shipping if you are unsure; we will explain what results to expect.
Do you polish matt helmets?
No. This service is only for glossy finishes. Matt, velour, velvet and suede surfaces do not have a suitable gloss layer to level. Polishing them can leave permanent discolouration and shiny patches.
Which brands can you polish?
Samshield, KEP, KASK, Freejump and other riding helmet brands. Suitability depends on the shell finish, not the brand: glossy surfaces may qualify, matt and textile finishes do not. Send a photo if your model is not listed.
Does polishing weaken the helmet or invalidate its warranty?
Polishing is cosmetic and works only on the top lacquer layer, without altering the shell structure or impact-absorbing system. It does not restore protection: a helmet involved in a fall must be replaced regardless of appearance. The manufacturer's warranty terms apply; contact us before ordering if you have questions about your model.
How long does polishing take?
We confirm timing after receiving the helmet. It depends on shell condition and our current workload. Tell us if you need it for a particular competition and we will confirm whether we can meet the date.
How do I send my helmet for servicing?
Bring it to our service centre in Ruda Śląska or send it to us. We return it to your chosen address afterwards. Use the original box or helmet bag and fill empty space in the shipping carton so it cannot move.
Can I polish the helmet myself?
Household or automotive polishing compounds can be too aggressive for helmet lacquer and may dull or remove printed details, logos and decoration. Routine cleaning with a soft, slightly damp cloth is appropriate, but DIY scratch removal can permanently damage the finish.
Is polishing worthwhile before selling a helmet?
Yes, this is a common reason for using the service. An even, glossy shell can improve listing photographs and help with resale. Always disclose the helmet's history to the buyer, including any falls.
